Een 3D-printer kiezen begint niet bij het model maar bij de vraag wat je ermee wilt doen. Ga je experimenteren als hobby, maak je prototypes, of wil je specifieke materialen printen? Zodra je doel helder is, wordt de keuze een stuk makkelijker.
Vergelijk daarna de types: FDM is goedkoop en ideaal voor beginners, SLA geeft hoge resolutie voor gedetailleerd werk, en SLS is er voor complexere, industriële toepassingen. Let op de specificaties die er echt toe doen, zoals bouwvolume, printprecisie, materiaalcompatibiliteit en hoe intuïtief de software werkt. Reken tot slot ook het gebruik mee: filament en hars kosten geld, en een iets duurdere machine kan op de lange termijn betrouwbaarder en goedkoper in onderhoud zijn.
