A smart garden is a plot that looks after itself. Instead of guessing when to water, you let sensors read the soil and a small computer decide, cutting waste and keeping your plants exactly as thirsty as they want to be. It's a satisfying blend of gardening and tinkering, and it rewards you every time you skip a watering can and the plants still thrive.
You'll build it around a Raspberry Pi or Arduino, with soil moisture, temperature and humidity sensors feeding it data, and solenoid valves handling the watering. Start by planning the layout: map sun exposure, group plants by their water and light needs, and place sensors and valves where they'll read true and reach everything. Wire it up, write the logic, and connect it to a cloud platform like AWS IoT, Google Cloud IoT or Azure IoT so you can check in from anywhere. Once it runs, keep improving: add plant-health monitoring, pest detection, even solar power, and let the garden grow smarter alongside you.

Verzamel je spullen: een Raspberry Pi of Arduino-board, bodemvocht-, temperatuur- en luchtvochtigheidssensoren, magneetkleppen, Wi-Fi-modules, relais, voedingsbronnen en je programmeertools.
Plan de indeling. Breng de zonblootstelling in kaart, groepeer planten op basis van water- en lichtbehoeften, en bepaal waar sensoren en kleppen komen zodat metingen nauwkeurig blijven en alles bereikbaar is.
Installeer je IoT-systeem: plaats de sensoren stevig in de bedden om foutieve metingen te voorkomen en sluit de magneetkleppen aan op je waterleiding.
Verbind met een cloudplatform zoals AWS IoT, Google Cloud IoT of Azure IoT via MQTT of HTTP, zodat je de tuin overal ter wereld kunt bewaken en beheren.
Zodra het werkt, blijf je verbeteren. Bekijk de prestaties, los problemen op en breid uit met plantgezondheidsmonitoring, plaagdetectie of zonne-energie naarmate je verder gaat.
