Renting a sloep on the Veerse Meer takes you across the brackish inland lake between Walcheren and Noord-Beveland, with mooring spots in Veere, Wolphaartsdijk and Kortgene. The Veerse Meer is cut off from the sea but has a mild tidal regime via the Katse Heule lock. No boating licence is required for an open sloep up to fifteen metres and a maximum of twenty kilometres per hour, though a small boating licence is recommended on the Veerse Meer due to wind and surface area. The skipper must be at least eighteen years old. Booking four to six weeks ahead is advisable from May through August.
Rates range between 250 and 450 euros per half day for a sloep accommodating six people. Small islands such as Schelphoek, Aragoneseiland and Goudplaateiland are regular mooring stops. Wind above four Beaufort makes the lake choppy. BBQ on board is permitted by many rental companies at a fixed gas point. Children under twelve are required to wear a life jacket, which is provided. The water is brackier than on the Randstad lakes, and snorkelling is possible.
