Spend a day or a weekend sailing on the Veerse Meer, aboard a rented sailboat. You set off from Kortgene, Veere, or Wolphaartsdijk.
The Veerse Meer is a calm inland lake in Zeeland between Walcheren and Noord-Beveland, ideal for beginner sailors and families. For open sailing boats under fifteen metres and twenty km per hour, no sailing licence is required; larger cabin yachts require the Klein Vaarbewijs 1. Hiring a skipper costs one hundred to two hundred euros per day, which is sometimes already included in the package price. Day rates from May to August range between eighty and three hundred and fifty euros, and a full week on a four-person yacht costs thirteen hundred to thirty-five hundred euros.
June and July are the most favourable months, with predominantly south-westerly winds of two to four Beaufort and calm water. The lake has eleven small islands and several anchorages; popular spots include Aragonderplaat, Schelphoek, and Soelekerkeplaat. Sailing from Veere, you pass the old town with its church tower in view; from Kortgene you quickly reach open water. Mooring fees range between fifteen and twenty-five euros per night.
