The Vechtplassen can be experienced in half a day if you stay close to the departure point. From Vreeland or Breukelen you have four hours to cruise a stretch of the Vecht, do a short loop across an adjacent lake, and moor at a village harbour or tea pavilion. Country estates, old locks, and low bridges follow one after another, so you cover a lot of variety on the water without needing to travel far.
No boating licence is required for an open sloop up to fifteen horsepower, and the minimum age is usually eighteen. Book one to two weeks in advance, ask about current bridge and lock times, and agree with the rental company where you will moor on your return. Life jackets for children are usually included as standard, and on a half-day trip you can easily get by without a lunch stop.
