The Tegeler See in northern Berlin is part of the Oberhavel and, with its seven islands, one of the city's more peaceful stretches of water. Motorboats up to 15 HP can be rented here without an official boating license, and many rental companies also offer electric boats that glide silently along the reed beds. No license needed, a short briefing is included. Depending on the model, boats fit four to seven people on board.
A popular route runs from the Greenwich-Promenade past Reiswerder, Scharfenberg, and Valentinswerder toward the Saatwinkler Steg. Getting there is easy with the U6 to Alt-Tegel, from where the boat jetties are just a few minutes on foot. Half-day rentals start at around 120 euros, and depending on the boat type and season, a full day can cost up to 200 euros.

Suggestions
- Choose the Greenwich-Promenade as your starting point, cafés and ice cream shops are right on the waterfront.
- Swimming from the boat is allowed, just not in the shipping channels.
- Sail around Scharfenberg island rather than docking, the boarding school there is not open to the public.
- Go on weekday mornings, the lake fills up with sailors on weekends.
- Pick up rolls from the bakery at Alt-Tegeler Marktplatz for a relaxed break on the water.
Variations
