Hitting the Road Safely on Your Motorcycle

Motorcycle riding starts long before the first bend, namely with your gear. Make sure you have a certified helmet, well-fitting motorcycle clothing, sturdy boots and gloves that protect your hands against wind and in a fall. Check that your motorcycle is well-maintained and the tyre pressure is correct, and that your licence is in order.

Always do a safety check before you leave: brakes, lights, signals and fuel. On the road, pay attention to your posture: back and shoulders relaxed, knees against the tank, elbows slightly bent and a loose grip on the handlebars. Accelerate smoothly and in a controlled manner, shift gears calmly and avoid sudden braking manoeuvres. Keep enough distance, adjust your speed to road and weather conditions, and lean with the motorcycle in the bends. After the ride, clean the motorcycle, check for wear and take a moment to reflect on what you have learned.
