Grow your own mint plant for tea and dishes
1 h€ 5 Calm
Mint is nearly impossible to kill and grows like crazy. Get one going and you'll have fresh leaves for months.
Mint might just be the most rewarding herb to grow: it grows quickly, smells amazing, and gives you fresh tea, mint sauce, or a crisp addition to your drinks in no time. It thrives in moist, well-draining soil with four to six hours of sun a day, so a sunny windowsill or a spot in the garden is all you need. Enrich the soil with some compost or organic fertiliser first, and the plant will be off to a great start.
You can plant mint from cuttings of a healthy plant or from seed, leaving about fifteen to twenty centimetres between them so the plant has room to spread. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, remove dead leaves, and top regularly, as this keeps the plant bushy and healthy. After about seventy days you can harvest your first sprigs. Never take more than a third at a time, and your mint will keep growing all season long.
Choose a spot with four to six hours of sun a day. A sunny windowsill indoors or a good spot in the garden both work perfectly.
