The Achterhoek is a region where six generations still work the same farm under the same name. On Saturdays, three or four small regional markets run at different village spots, and the farmers you find there are often the same ones running a farm shop you can stop by later that week. No middlemen, no brands, just field to table.
A route across three markets on a Saturday is not a coffee outing. It's doing the work of your weekly shopping. You drive out, you buy, you move on. By the end of the day you have two bags full of things that either don't exist in the city or cost twice as much. And you've had three conversations about the weather, cows, or a local council. That kind of conversation doesn't exist in the Albert Heijn.

Friday evening: check which regional markets are running on Saturday in the Achterhoek. Vorden, Winterswijk, Lievelde, Aalten are reliable options.
0Saturday 8:30: head out. You'll reach Vorden around 9:30, which is a good time to arrive at a market.

Buy the non-perishables and the heavy stuff at the first market. Potatoes, a loaf of bread, a cheese. No cold items yet, those come later.

- Bring cash, small notes, even though most stalls now accept card.
- A cool bag in the car for milk and cheese you're carrying between markets.
- Ask every stallholder one question about their product. Short conversations are half the value.
