Silent Spring Walk with Forest
3 h€ 0-10 Calm
You plant a digital tree in the Forest app, put your phone away, and spend two hours walking through a spring forest. No route, just space for the first leaf buds.
Picture this: you're standing at the edge of a forest, phone in hand, and you open the Forest app one last time. You choose a two-hour session, plant a digital seed, and tuck your phone into your jacket pocket. From that moment on, your tree only grows if you don't scroll. The urge to check fades after a quarter of an hour, and you start to notice the shape of a beech tree, the creak of branches, the smell of damp earth.
You don't need to follow a route. A four-kilometre loop is plenty, or you can wander off onto a side path. Along the way you can stop beside a fern, a mushroom, a fallen trunk. At the end you open the app, see your tree in full leaf, and walk back to the car with a head that feels lighter than on the way there.

Open Forest, choose a 120-minute session, and plant your seed before you step onto the forest path.
Suggestion: Put your phone on silent mode first. The first hundred steps feel awkward without the reflex to reach for your phone. Keep walking, it fades on its own.
Stop at the first sound you truly hear. Count to ten before you start moving again.
Crouch down at something small: moss, a mushroom, a leaf bud. Look at it for thirty seconds and touch it.
What would you do right now if your phone was gone for the rest of the afternoon?
At the end, open Forest again. Your tree is fully grown, and you've saved two hours for yourself.

Suggestions
- Go on a weekday morning when the paths are quieter and you can hear more birds.
- Wear shoes that can get wet as spring paths are often muddy.
- Bring a thermos of tea for a break halfway through.
- Let someone at home know roughly which route you're taking, just to be safe.
- Try a nearby forest, such as Speulderbos or Amsterdamse Bos.
Variations
