🧭 Put on the map by PlayTryBe team

Expansive lakes near Loosdrecht, perfect for a leisurely day of boat touring.

The Loosdrechtse Plassen are a large watersports and nature area between Amsterdam and Utrecht, made up of five interconnected lakes that formed through peat extraction in the 16th and 17th centuries. The area is a paradise for sailors, canoeists, windsurfers and walkers, but its quieter sections, such as the Vuntus and the Breukeleveense Plas, also offer abundant nature and tranquillity. The lakes form the central part of the Natura 2000 area Oostelijke Vechtplassen and are managed by Natuurmonumenten and the Plassenschap Loosdrecht. Loosdrecht is considered the watersports capital of the Netherlands, with countless marinas, rental operators and waterside terraces along the shores.
