National Park De Alde Feanen is one of the largest lowland peat bogs in Western Europe, situated in the heart of Friesland, around the village of Earnewâld. The park covers approximately 4,000 hectares of peat lakes, reed marshes, quaking bogs and swamp forests, and is home to more than 450 plant species and over 100 breeding bird species. Walking, cycling and boating are the most popular ways to explore the park, with seven bird-watching huts and two observation towers spread throughout the area. Officially designated as the twentieth national park of the Netherlands in 2006, De Alde Feanen will celebrate its twentieth anniversary in 2026.

The park itself is freely accessible throughout the year. The information point (Wiidswei 32) is open from 1 April to 30 September, daily from 10:00 to 16:00. During autumn and winter the information point is closed.
