For productions looking for an authentic floating setting, a historic ship is often a better choice than a set. The tjalkens, clippers and barges in the rental fleet are over a hundred years old, restored and seaworthy. The skipper knows the ship, the water and the region, and thinks along about shooting angle, light and route.
A shooting day can take place both underway and moored. On the IJsselmeer or the Wadden the ship sits in an environment free of modern objects in frame, suitable for period films, commercials and music videos. The hold offers space for make-up, costumes and lunch, the deck for scenes with multiple characters. Crew can often stay on board overnight to be able to film early at sunrise. Permits for sailing shoots are usually arranged by the skipper or the rental company.
