Renting a motorboat on the Westeinderplassen takes you across the largest lake area in South Noord-Holland, right next to Aalsmeer and Schiphol. The lakes consist of the Grote Brasem, the Kleine Brasem and the Bovenlanden, a labyrinth of reclaimed strips of land and islands. No boating licence is required for an open motorboat up to fifteen metres and a maximum of twenty kilometres per hour. The skipper must be at least eighteen years old. Booking four to six weeks in advance is recommended from May through July. Rates range from 220 to 380 euros per half day for a boat that fits six people.
On the lakes, the speed limit is twelve kilometres per hour on the Grote Brasem and six in the Bovenlanden. The set route past the Historische Tuin Aalsmeer, the Praamplein and the Bloemenveiling passage makes it truly unique. BBQ on board is allowed by most rental companies at the designated gas-safe spot. Children under twelve are required to wear a life jacket. You can moor at the sandy beaches of Vrouwentroost and Loswal Robend.
