The IJsselmeer is the largest inland lake in the Netherlands and a natural playground for sailors. A day charter means you rent a sailboat for four to eight hours, often departing from Enkhuizen, Medemblik, Lemmer, Stavoren or Hindeloopen. With day charters you can choose to sail yourself if you have a sailing licence and experience, or opt for a skipper included if you just want to go along for the ride.
A typical day starts with checking in at the harbour, a safety briefing and an explanation of sailing and navigation. You then choose a course based on the wind: a loop along the coast, a crossing to the other side or a lunch stop at a mooring. Keep in mind the changeable winds on the lake and a longer return trip if the breeze shifts. At the end you moor up, stow the lines neatly and leave the boat clean.

Book with or without a skipper; without a skipper requires experience and usually a Vaarbewijs II.
Check in, attend the safety briefing and check the sails, engine and VHF radio.
Set your course based on wind and weather, and plan a lunch mooring stop.
Head out, hoist the sails once you have open water, and hold your course.
Head back to the harbour in good time, moor up and hand the boat back in good order.
