The Veerse Meer is the gentler sibling of the Zeeland waters. Sheltered, shallow in most places, with small islands and low banks where sheep graze. The wind hits less hard here than on the Oosterschelde and the Grevelingenmeer, making it more suitable for anyone who wants to hold the tiller for the first time or is looking for a calm day on the water without any stress.
A day charter usually departs from Kortgene or Wolphaartsdijk. After a short briefing the boat heads out onto the lake, past Mosseleiland and the Goudplaat. Dropping anchor near a small island is easy, the water is clear and the shallow sections warm up quickly. Lunch on deck, swimming from the swim ladder, and a final tack back with Veere in sight.

Book a day charter of four or eight hours in Kortgene or Wolphaartsdijk, and indicate whether you want it with a skipper or as a sailing lesson.
A short briefing at the dock on sailing, the jib, and the tiller. Ask where the life jacket is kept.
Motor out of the berth, then raise the mainsail on open water. The wind fills the sail and the boat heels slightly.
Anchor near Mosseleiland or the Goudplaat. A dive from the bow, sheep watching from the bank.
On the way back, tack yourself, switch the jib sheet, hold your course. The skipper lets go, you steer.
Back in the harbour with a lightly salted skin and a sunburned nose. The Veerse Meer gives you space without demands.
