Annecy draws visitors for its lake and canals, but its small specialty coffee scene is well worth the trip. The best spots are tucked away in the narrow streets of the historic centre, near the Palais de l'Île, and just a short walk from the Pont des Amours. The alpine light is sharp in the morning, and terraces fill up quickly in summer. To enjoy a peaceful table, aim for the nine to eleven o'clock window on weekdays.
The route takes about two hours on foot. Start with a slow filter coffee in the historic centre, follow the canals to the Pont des Amours, then finish on a bench looking out over the lake with a coffee to go. Independent roasters open early and often close in the mid-afternoon. Bring a light layer, the lake air stays cool.
