Macramé is surprisingly simple and surprisingly calming. You need very little: macramé cord of three to four millimetres, a wooden stick or metal ring, scissors and a measuring tape. Want to make it more personal? Set aside some beads or feathers. Measure five pieces of cord, roughly four times the length of the stick, fold them in half and attach them with a lark's head knot.
Then the knotting begins. The square knot and the spiral knot form the foundation: lay the outer cord over the middle ones, bring the other outer cord underneath and back through the loop, and repeat. Add beads or feathers for character and finish with firmly tied ends or fringes at varying lengths. Hang your work in a prominent spot and enjoy what you made with your own hands.
