One week of quiet mornings
Seven mornings without a phone, no radio, no music during the first hour after waking up. Insight Timer for an optional ten minutes of sitting. After that, the world comes on its own.

pace
Most mornings start with a check. Phone, emails, news, weather. Often within three minutes of waking up. That's not a disaster, but it sets a pace for the day. One week without that check is an experiment in how much calmer a morning can be when you keep the first hour quiet.
No monk approach, no Vipassana discipline. Simply: no phone, no radio, no music during the first hour after waking up. Coffee is fine, breakfast is fine, a walk too if you feel like it. Optionally ten minutes of sitting with an app like Insight Timer. On day 1 it feels uncomfortable, because you feel the urge about 20 times. On day 4 you feel the silence for the first time rather than an absence. On day 7 you know your phone doesn't need to come along in the first 60 minutes of the day, and that's a choice that changes the rest of the day.

Eén week alleen analoog lezen
Zeven dagen geen schermen voor lezen. Kindle, e-reader, Twitter, alles dicht.

Sunday evening: put your phone in the kitchen instead of on the nightstand. Not "I'll start tomorrow", tonight already.
0Get a classic alarm clock. Without that one alarm clock it won't work, because you'll reach for your phone alarm and be straight into your emails.
12Plan a fixed morning activity for the first hour. Making coffee, having breakfast, or a short walk. No TV, no radio, no podcast.
Day 1: you'll feel the urge to reach for your phone about 20 times. Every time is information, not a problem. The urge passes within an hour.
Optional: ten minutes of sitting with Insight Timer or similar. Free, at a set time, with no goal. Doesn't work for everyone.
Somewhere around day 4: a morning where the silence itself feels comfortable. Not an absence of something, but a presence of something else. Often a morning where the sun catches somewhere.
Something gets decided about the rest of the day in its first hour. A phone check sets a pace, and so does a quiet morning. Neither is good or bad, both are a choice.
Day 7: look back at how it went. Not measured in productivity, simply: did the week feel different. Often the answer is yes, and then the habit tends to stick on its own.

Suggestions
- Phone in the kitchen at night, not on the nightstand. Otherwise "first hour quiet" stays a good intention.
- A classic alarm clock (€10) instead of your phone alarm.
- A fixed activity during that hour. Making coffee, breakfast, a short walk. Not filling the void, building a rhythm.
- A meditation app like Insight Timer for an optional 10 minutes. Not required, but a good anchor.
Variations
