Water, forests and mills on the edge of the city
Recreatiegebied Rottemeren is a vast nature and recreation area of around 900 hectares on the edge of Rotterdam, formed around the age-old peat river the Rotte. The area consists of a mosaic of forests, lakes and sub-areas such as the Zevenhuizerplas, the Hoge Bergse Bos and the Eendragtspolder. Visitors can enjoy watersports, mountain biking, walking, fishing, day camping and even skiing. The area is managed by Staatsbosbeheer on behalf of Recreatieschap Rottemeren, a collaborative partnership between the municipalities of Rotterdam, Lansingerland and Zuidplas.
