The Oosterschelde is no quiet lake. It is tidal water with current, wind, and open space, and that makes half a day of boating here very different from a trip on an inland lake. From Wolphaartsdijk or Yerseke you rent an open motorboat of around six metres, often with a 15 hp outboard motor. Below that engine limit and shorter than 15 metres, you don't need a boating licence, but the rental company always gives a briefing on tides, current, and buoyage.
