Heeg sits on the Heegermeer and is one of the best-known sailing villages in Súdwest-Fryslân. Rental companies offer sloops for up to around eight people, often with an engine under 15 hp so no boating licence is required. Fuel is usually not included in the price and gets added to the final bill. A full day on the water leaves plenty of time for a lap of the Heegermeer, a stop in Woudsend, and the crossing to the Fluessen for some wider stretches of water.
The price of a sloop runs from around 150 to 300 euros for a day, plus fuel. You can moor at the marinas in Woudsend and Heeg, and at the waterside terraces along the Wijde Wijmerts. A lunch stop works best halfway through, so the return trip stays relaxed. Drop-off is usually before 17:00, so starting out at half past nine gives you the most time on the water.
