For a day charter, this is a gentle introduction: no tides, no locks, no swell, yet real sailing air with the North Sea just metres away.
A typical day starts in Bruinisse or Scharendijke, with a short briefing on the dock and a sailing trip toward the islands. When the wind drops, the engine goes on; when a nice breeze picks up, you tack. Lunch is often eaten at anchor near Hompelvoet or Veermansplaat. Those who want to swim jump from the bow into the salty water. Back at the dock by sunset.

Book a day charter of four to eight hours in Bruinisse or Scharendijke in advance. Let them know whether you want to helm yourself or prefer a skipper.
Board an hour before departure for a briefing on hoisting the sails, trimming the jib, and the man-overboard procedure.
Motor out of the harbour, then raise the mainsail. The boat heels gently in the first gust, a cup of tea stays put.
Drop anchor near Hompelvoet, swim or take a walk on the bare island. Cormorants on the rocks, not a sound.
On the way back, practise tacking: pull in the jib sheet, move with the tiller. The boat responds slowly and clearly.
Back at the dock, salt on your skin, muscles pleasantly tired. This costs less than a good ski day and gives you a lot more wind.
