Washing your car yourself, thorough and efficient
Wash your car at home in the right order: wheels first, then top to bottom, and dry it off to prevent streaks.

Washing your car yourself saves money and, with a little attention, is just as thorough as a car wash. Park the car in the shade so the soap doesn't dry into streaks, and get everything ready: a bucket, car shampoo, a soft sponge, a microfibre cloth, and a garden hose.
Always start with the wheels, as they collect the most brake dust. Then wash the bodywork from top to bottom, so dirt from above doesn't end up on clean sections, and rinse your sponge frequently to avoid scratches. Rinse everything thoroughly, dry it off straight away with the microfibre cloth, and optionally apply a layer of wax for shine and protection. Done in about an hour.
