Bake your own bread in an hour, no experience needed
1 h€ 5 Calm
The smell of freshly baked bread in your own kitchen, within an hour and without any baking experience. Five ingredients, a crispy crust, and a great sense of satisfaction.
There is something almost magical about baking your own bread. The smell that fills your kitchen, the crust that crackles, and the simple fact that you know exactly what went into it. You don't need a baker's degree for it, just some flour, water, yeast, salt, and an hour of patience.
For many people, bread baking is above all soothing: a pause in the busyness, a moment where you make something tangible with your hands. You mix, knead until the dough is smooth and elastic, let it rise, shape a loaf, and slide it into the oven. When it's golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped, it's done. And then the real fun begins: experimenting with wholemeal, spelt, seeds, and nuts.
Mix 500g flour, 10g salt, and 7g dry yeast in a large bowl. Slowly add 300ml lukewarm water while stirring.
Suggestion: Lukewarm water, not hot or cold, otherwise the yeast won't work properly.Knead the dough for about ten minutes on a lightly floured surface, until it is smooth and elastic.
Suggestion: Bread too dense? Then it hasn't been kneaded long enough.Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 30 minutes in a warm spot.
Punch out the air bubbles, shape your loaf, and bake it for 25 to 30 minutes at 220 degrees until golden brown and hollow-sounding.
Let it cool slightly, slice, and share. Next time, add seeds, nuts, or dried fruit.
