Making arretjescake, no oven required
3 h€ 5 Calm
The classic Dutch chocolate cake that you don't bake but let set. A treat for chocolate lovers.
Arretjescake is nostalgia on a plate: the chocolate cake from the old days that you make without ever turning on the oven. You only need a handful of ingredients and a little patience while the fridge does the work. Perfect for when you're in the mood for something sweet without the fuss.
You crumble Maria biscuits and mix them with soft brown sugar, cocoa and eggs to form a firm base. Melted butter binds everything into a smooth batter. You press that into a loaf tin and put it in the fridge for at least two hours to set. Then you carefully pop the cake out of the tin, slice it up and enjoy every chocolatey bite.
Get ready: 200 g Maria biscuits, 250 g soft brown sugar, 120 g cocoa, 2 eggs and 250 g butter.
Break the Maria biscuits into small pieces.
Mix the biscuit pieces with soft brown sugar, cocoa and the two eggs in a large bowl.
Melt the butter, add it to the mixture and stir until you have a smooth batter.
Press the batter firmly into a loaf tin and put it in the fridge for at least two hours to set.
Carefully pop the cake out of the tin, slice it up and enjoy.
