Een aquarium opzetten is een klein project met een groot resultaat: een levendig stukje onderwaterwereld in je eigen huis. Het vraagt wat voorbereiding, want de vissen die je kiest bepalen bijna alles, van de grootte van de bak tot de inrichting en het water. Doe je huiswerk vooraf, dan gaat de rest bijna vanzelf.
In dit playbook loop je van voorbereiding naar de eerste vissen. Je kiest tussen zoet en zout water, richt de bak in met grind en planten, behandelt het water en voegt de vissen langzaam toe. Daarna houdt regelmatig onderhoud het aquarium gezond, voor jou en voor de vissen.

First decide what you want: freshwater or saltwater, and which fish. Research their needs before you buy anything.
Choose a tank that suits the number and size of your fish. Place it on a sturdy, flat surface, out of direct sunlight, and set it up with gravel, plants, and decorations.
Fill with water and use a water treatment to remove chlorine. Measure the pH level and temperature, suited to your fish.
Add the fish slowly so as not to shock them, and feed in moderation with the right food.
Suggestion: Ideally let the tank settle for a few days before the first fish go in.Keep it healthy: change the water regularly, keep algae under control, and test the water parameters.
